KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Carey Cummins

Carey Cummins is the most severely injured survivor of the deadliest drunk-driving crash in U.S. history. At age 14, she was among the passengers on a school bus that was struck head-on by a drunk driver traveling the wrong way on an interstate highway. The devastating crash claimed the lives of 27 of the 60 people aboard the bus.

Carey sustained third-degree burns over more than 60% of her body and severe fourth-degree burns to her right leg, which ultimately required amputation below the knee. She received specialized burn care at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and endured years of surgeries, rehabilitation, and physical therapy. Today, she walks independently with a prosthetic leg.

Determined to build a meaningful life after tragedy, Carey earned a college degree and became a registered nurse, spending seven years working in oncology. She later co-produced the documentary Impact: After the Crash, which chronicles the lasting effects of the crash and is available on Amazon Prime.

Through her powerful story of survival, resilience, and perseverance, Carey inspires audiences to overcome adversity, embrace hope, and recognize the profound impact of the choices we make.

Carey lives in Virginia with her husband of more than 22 years and their son. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and experiencing new countries, cultures, and perspectives.
